Two things. 1. People here that post answers don't get anything back from it other than the satisfaction of helping people. We do it for free, and I am happy to do it. But. When people demand answers to a syntax problem that could be solved by them spending 30 seconds doing a little research, it gets pretty annoying.
2. I have noticed in this field, that the best people are the ones that learnt SQL server (or any other programming discipline) by trial and error. Get it, make mistakes, fix them, learn from them. Keep hammering away at something until you understand it and have it working. By all means ask for help, but spend some time trying to figure it out yourself first.
If your co-workers tell you to read BOL, it is firstly beacuse they are busy and secondly becuase they know if you don't learn how to help yourself you will be pestering them with BOL syntax questions for ever.
