In the last 2 weeks I have seen excessive blocking by a -4 SPID. We have not changed anything lately.

Does anyone know what would be causing the -4 SPID?

FWIW, I've never seen a negative SPID.

Try this:

The -2 SPID is an orphaned distributed transaction, not sure if -4 is the same but the process for killing it may still apply.
