Were there any errors when you installed the server? You can look in C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\100\Setup Bootstrap\Log for the error logs |

To add to Jack's suggestion:2008R2 requires .Net Framework 3.5 SP1. You can check if you 3.5 SP1 by navigating to HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Net Framework Setup\NDP\3.5. The version number should be 3.4.30729.nnnn. If you don't have it, you will need to install it. If you don't have access to registry, look up the Product Version of some of the exe's in %systemroot%\Microsoft.Net\Framework64\v3.5Also, googling for the error message that you posted, I ran into this page: http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/sqlexpress/thread/f9ab6d1c-6d4e-4453-814f-96a92a081f22/Look way down in the thread for the answer by Reelix - several people responded that his suggestions solved similar problems for them |
