Should I Open and Close Conn When Writing at 1Hz?

I am logging 100-400 columns of data at 1 Hz. Should I open and close the connection on every write? The reason I ask is because I seem to get an error almost every night at 3:08 AM. The connection state becomes broken even though the application is writing to an instance of SQL Express on the same machine. It isn't always 3:08, but that is the most common time, and we suspect McAfee updates may be bogging down the PC.

Thank you.
