I have a server with name : S1
Installed an instance with name : S1
------------------------------------
I Need to rename HostName And sql server to S2 .
Whats\'s the order od that ?
First Machine Or sql server ?
Please guide me.

Since you have a named instance, the recommended way is to uninstall the instance and then reinstall, at least according to this response from a Microsoft employee. http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/sqlserver/en-US/c07ab906-dabf-4303-9737-d430d82c4f42/how-to-rename-instance-of-sql-server-2008-r2


You might also want to check out the sp_dropserver and sp_addserver, but I have zero experience or familiarity with that, so I will refrain from shooting from the hip on that topic.
