I am trying to imagine a possible reason for moving an existing, working system from an RDMS to VSAM.
I would really be interested in hearing any possible business, financial, or technical advantage.
The good old days:

PROGRAM-ID. MYPRGM.
AUTHOR. MVJ.
ENVIRONMENT DIVISION.
INPUT-OUTPUT SECTION.
FILE-CONTROL.
SELECT INP-VSAM ASSIGN TO VSAMIN
ORGANIZATION IS INDEXED
ACCESS IS DYNAMIC
RECORD KEY IS EMP-ID
FILE STATUS IS FS-STATUS.
DATA DIVISION.
FILE SECTION.
FD INP-VSAM.
01 FILE-LAYOUT.
05 EMP-ID PIC X(06).
05 FILLER PIC X(01).
05 EMP-NAME PIC X(10).

Problem solved and case closed. It was a badly written trigger that produced the error...

This is why some people should learn "Do you want fries with that?"...

But still you persist in trying to help them. |

I think many of us are genuinely trying to help but then that frustration creeps in and continues to grow, and the comments turn a little nastier, not mean but with a subtle hint of sacarsm (well, sometimes not so subtle!) but I think we all go as far as possible to help the OP. I think if some of these "twits" made a half-hearted effort first, organized their requests and presented them with the appearance that they had 1/2 a brain, we'd continue to help them until they acheived their desired results. But come on, simple requests for more info or did you check that, are met with such resistance or shoulder-shrugs sometimes - would you even want order fries from some of them? Just asking.....;-)

Oh my! Should know better as well.
Sometimes it's tempting to just answer the question that's been asked.
========================================== Cursors are useful if you don't know sql. DTS can be used in a similar way. Beer is not cold and it isn't fizzy. |

If those people getting fired work at a bank, I couldn't be happier. Should I trust my money with a system they built?

You probably already know this but, the DB2 RDMS runs on VSAM files. At least it did last time I worked with it about 4 years ago.

I know, since that was explictly mentioned in the thread.
However, the poster means that they are moving away from using DB2 to using VSAM record access methods.
