And over at SSC I'm getting told that I'm damaging the community because I'm posting too much...

I don't know if it's that my high post count there makes me a more visible target or whether I'm letting the comments bug me more lately, but the frequency of 'attacks' seems to be on the increase

Are you geting attacks from the regulars, or just from people you are trying to help?
Who said you post too much? How could that damage the community, especially when you are answering technical questions for people?

Certainly not the regulars. Sometimes the OP, sometimes a 'drive-by' attack. I suspect something to do with strong opinions (don't shrink your DB, don't truncate your log, Repair is not the way to fix corruption, etc)

Wasn't singled out on that one. That was directed at all the frequent posters. Basically saying we're encouraging quantity over quality.

Sounds quite amusing to me. "How can I help you?", "By not posting".. "Ok, thanks for that ingrate", job done. |

| Maybe I'm missing something here, but that doesn't qualify in my opinion. |

| I gave him the title since he is an MCM and used to work for Microsoft until just last week. I'm assuming he's the real Robert Davis of course, he may not be. |

Yes, you were. Unnecessarily. Calling someone who is just correcting bad advice rude names is just plain offensive. He didn't insult Tara, he just called out bad advice (and yes, that was bad advice). I do that regularly here and elsewhere. Do you call me names behind my back? Really makes me not want to be part of this site.
Yes, that is Robert Davis

Wait..you didn't think he was being rude, seemed to have an agenda and go out his way to try and Prove Tara wrong?
He could have been LOADS nicer, and I don't care who he is.
Seems like a blowhard
You have never come across that way

I'm a little surprised by Gail's response here. Yes, Brett can be rude with the best of 'em. BUT...he's right in this case -- Robert was rude. There are polite ways to correct folks and there are impolite ways.
AND whether you're right or wrong, that is a HORRIBLE 1st post. Not a good way to introduce yourself to a community.
In this case, it's not about who is right or wrong on the topic, but about simple common decency and respect. And Brett is right this time. |
