All,

I need to change a data type from vchar to text. Do you see any possible problems with doing this change? Also, will the present data be converted?

Why not use varchar(max)?

Unless you're still on SQL 2000 (or, yikes, before), you should definitely use varchar(max). Text is a major hassle to update especially.
