Hello sql expert,

I saw a case statement like below and I am wondering what the dbo.StudentID for?

CASE
WHEN StudentRegNum like '29%' THEN 'Not a Student'
ELSE SUBSTRING(StudentRegNum,5,10) + dbo.StudentID(left (StudentRegNum,5), SUBSTRING(StudentRegNum,5,10))
END)

Thank you

SQLBoy

It is hard to tell without looking at schema, but most likely dbo.StudentID is a user-defined function.
