 how to perform partial backup?

i want to backup records for last year(and do it each year), and delete this records. But later in case i need old data, restore data for the year that i want, use it and remove it again.

is it possible on MSSQL 2005?

Of course, just not with the backup command

Easiest using SSIS. Otherwise partition the tables and switch the older partions to archive tables
