Microsoft announced the SQL Server 2005 Express Edition technical preview at Tech*Ed Europe. Express Edition is the renamed and much improved MSDE. Key features include the elimination of the query governer and support for databases up to 4GB in size. It's limited to 1 CPU and 1GB of RAM. They also have a feature called XCopy deployment. This seems to be the ability to copy a database into a certain directory and have SQL Server automatically recognize it and make it available for use. AND you can download it today. UPDATE: Beta 2 of SQL Server 2005 Express Edition is now available.
