Hi my name is Jose,I had been working on a VB 6.0 Application wich uses Access Database. After runing the application on networks, it is very slow. Doing some reaserch I read that MS SQL Server is 10 times more faster. I have MS SQL SERVER 2005 on Vista Premium.I installed and Im VERY LOST HERE!.I tried tutorials but I cannt get started since, on the Sfirst dialog that appears is a "Connect To Server", I cannt select the server since is blank. I click Browse and doesnt appear any server.(By the way when I install it it tells me ISS wasnt there, I isntall ISS and then run MS SQL installation and keeps tellingme that. I even run "localhost' (something like that) and shows that is installed. My question is :DO I need ISS ?How can I connect to a server, or create a simple connection. What I want to do is connect my access database or make my database to work. I know I need to convert it but how since I cannt even log)Any help ? Thanks a lot |

Use hostname if you installed the default instance, otherwise use hostname\instancename for a named instance. To get the value of hostname, type in hostname in a cmd window (Start..Run..cmd). To get the instance name, check SQL Server Configuration Manager. And by ISS, do you mean IIS? If so, IIS is not required to use SQL Server. In fact, it is not recommended to have IIS and the SQL Server engine on the same machine.Tara KizerMicrosoft MVP for Windows Server System - SQL Serverhttp://weblogs.sqlteam.com/tarad/Subscribe to my blog |

I'll send you a PM with what I'd charge, but be warned it's not cheap to hire a consultant. You can get free help here which is what I would recommend.Tara KizerMicrosoft MVP for Windows Server System - SQL Serverhttp://weblogs.sqlteam.com/tarad/Subscribe to my blog |
