1. SQL Server 2005 Surface Area Configuration -> Surface Area Configuration for Features
2. OLE Automation

Next time, you might want to use Google or Books Online before posting a trivial question?

I have now tested the sp_configure as you suggested.
It does not seem to make a difference to the checkbox in the oleAutomation.
Either way it is always set to checked unless I manually uncheck it.
Any thoughts please?

If it is checked, OLE Automation is enabled.
If it is not checked, OLE Automation is disabled.

I would like to have it the other way round i.e.
When enabled i.e. 1 then it should be checked
when disabled i.e. 0 then it should be unchecked
It does not seem to be doing that.
Thanks

If you want change the value for OLE Automation in SQL Surface Area Configuration,
you also have to click OK or APPLY.

Just changing the value is not enough.

I think you mis-understood.
I would like to change the setting of the checkbox using only SQL. i.e. sp_configure
I do not want to do this in the surface area window.
Thanks

You are writing a SQL injection application?
What is wrong with the method I showed earlier? Read the post 07/16/2008 : 07:23:54 again and please make an effort yourself, you lazy bastard

I showed you how to alter a setting and viewing a setting with t-sql code.

:-) ok
Just to confirm, the sql code should change the setting in surface area ole automation checkbox, right?
I have done this already but the checkbox does not change it's state whereas after running the sql, it does give a message in query analyser that the setting has changed.
Thanks

It is because the setting for OLE Automation is only viewed, not altered.
Do you see the difference between the uses of sp_configure?

After reading about sp_configure and looking at the sql provided earlier I thought the settings can be altered i.e. enabled to disabled or vice versa.
Not sure what you mean by only viewed, not altered. I am not sure what you mean by only viewed because the sql analyser shows the setting changed from 0 to 1 or vice versa.
Thanks

What have you read about the minimum and maximum columns for sp_configure?
What have you read about the config_value and run_value columns for sp_configure?

This is what I ran
sp_configure @configname = 'show advanced options', @configvalue = 1
GO
RECONFIGURE
GO

sp_configure 'Ole Automation Procedures'
GO

sp_configure 'show advanced options', 0
RECONFIGURE
GO
and the result in analyser is:
Configuration option 'show advanced options' changed from 0 to 1. Run the RECONFIGURE statement to install.
Configuration option 'show advanced options' changed from 1 to 0. Run the RECONFIGURE statement to install.

Which option, did you say you changed?
It is not the 'Ole Automation Procedures' for what I can tell.
