Yes. But you need SP2 to make the SQL engine run.
And please pay notice to the "user elevation" prompt at the end of the installation process.

Did you apply SP2 as I wrote earlier?
SQL Engine will not start on Vista before SP is installed.

If i can remember correctly .. Yes. I am using Case Sensitive collation and my computer name is in mixed case. Computer name is case-insensitive but apparently during installation Vista at one point return it as UPPER CASE and another point as it is (mix case).

Actually there is 2 error return. There is an earlier error message with error code. Can't really remember how i found the KB case now (I had that link in my office PC but i probably will only be in office next week). I will post back when i found the link.

If i remember correctly there are actually 2 error message one after the other. The 1st error is what posted on the link. The 2nd error is probably due to the 1st. OP only posted the 2nd error.
