I'm having a little trouble understand which of these two is appropriate for an application. The application in question has a lot of reads and writes. Data is constantly inserted and updated.Currently we have been executing a nightly maintenance plan to rebuild the indexes, then reorganize them. Are both steps necessary for most efficient query results? |

NO. Reorganizing only organizes the leaf level of indexes while rebuilding does everything including updating stats. You have to see fragmentation level and do reorganize or rebuild index. |
