I am just curious as to what database does google and yahoo use to run their website?

Google has their own custom filesystem, OS, and "database" technology. Google for "Bigtable" and you'll find articles on it.

Not sure what Yahoo does but it's likely to be similar. They don't run any critical search stuff on commercial database products, that much I know.

These portal run on hundreds of servers.

I heard yahoo started with windows, but later moved to mysql. But definitely a customized version and not what you get out of the box

But to get thier OS, its best seen here. Google used to be on linux.

I know for sure yahoo music is on classic ASP and windows
