My wife is thinking about installing video conferencing to reduce travel to her (business) clients. I guess she and her colleagues do 10-person flights to Europe a year, and 2 or 3-person car-trips of 200-miles rountrip per month, to visit clients which could probably be done as well by video-conference, saving travelling time and, in many cases, recovery time too (El Cheapo Airline to Europe tends to get them home around 11pm, so they are pretty shot the next day).

The clients pay travel costs, so I am guessing it will not be hard to persuade them to swap that budget for video conferencing ...

They will want to spend a reasonable amount of money to get something that makes the video conference a reasonable replacement for face-to-face, so I don't think that a screen-mounted Web Cam is going to be the right solution , but equally it needs to be something that is "standards compliant" or whatever, so that each client can easily obtain equipment.

Any ideas on suitable equipment?

Cheers!

We are using an excellent system, can plug in laptops and other equipment on same connection.
Have to hear about the manufacturer tomorrow.

"what does our wife do....for business"

Brett: She provides strategic advice to clients. So lots of reading up on stuff, and preparing, and then meetings / discussion about the best way forward for the client.

her company does not have technical IT people in-house, but it does have outsourced IT folk who are well above average.
