The current version of SQL Server 2005 on production is

SQLServer 9.00.3233.00-SP2(Enterprise Edition (64-bit))

Do we have any known bugs of this kind for this version?

Thanks

To set alert go to services in control panel\administration tools and on SQL Server service set on fail action = run program.

Create a batch or vbs file to contact you either using net send, or send an email (http://www.visualbasicscript.com/m_64889/mpage_1/key_/tm.htm#64889)

Call this program on service failure.
