Hi experts.

Recently, my administrator removed the domain controller that is deployed on the database server - and to my horror, I am unable to log in any more.

Each time I try to start the service I got this

TITLE: Surface Area Configuration
------------------------------

The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion, you need administrator privileges to be able to start/stop this service. (SQLSAC)

The problem i am sign in as an administrator account to resolve this issue. When I check the application log, I got the following error:

Event Type: Error
Event Source: MSSQLSERVER
Event Category: (2)
Event ID: 17049
Date: 12/16/2008
Time: 3:24:03 PM
User: N/A
Computer: SV06
Description:
Unable to cycle error log file from 'C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL.1\MSSQL\LOG\ERRORLOG.1' to 'C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL.1\MSSQL\LOG\ERRORLOG.2' due to OS error '5(Access is denied.)'. A process outside of SQL Server may be preventing SQL Server from reading the files. As a result, errorlog entries may be lost and it may not be possible to view some SQL Server errorlogs. Make sure no other processes have locked the file with write-only access."

Hi Peso

Quote: "Change owner for Agent Service to local network or similar."

Please can you tell me how do I do that or direct me to a source where I can find out how to do that? Appearantly I am googling the wrong words...

1) In Control Panel, choose Administrative Tools and Services.
2) For the SQL Server Agent in question, choose Properties
3) Switch to Log On tab
4) Choose Local system or choose a particular account to use for SQL Server Agent to start with

Thank you. Send me a postcard by snailmail. I collect postcards from around the world.

You should check the same property and log on account for the sql server service too.

SO your administrator removed domain controller without notifying DBAs.

Sodeep,

yes. =( as a result all database connections died for all applications depending on database. The ERP was down as cannot connect to database and whole office was in an uproar - I was frantically switching to backup database server, using backup data, but the backup data is outdated (we backup once a month). sigh.

Regards,

Eugene
