I dont think your problem has anything to do with Sql server or Enterprise Manager . it looks like a Hardware problem. the noise i think is for the Reads the system is doing to get information for loading Enterprise Manager.

Run Scandisk or some other utility on you hard drive and check your hard drive for possible errors and bad sectors. if that doesnt works out. try reinstalling Sql Server.
