We recently upgraded the mirror server to SQL 2008 but left the principal server at 2005. Now when I attempt to create a snapshot database of a mirrored database on the mirror server, I get a message that the database needs to be upgraded:

"Msg 946, Level 14, State 1, Line 2
Cannot open database 'MyDB_Snapshot' version 611. Upgrade the database to the latest version.
Msg 1823, Level 16, State 2, Line 2
A database snapshot cannot be created because it failed to start."

Previous to the upgrade, this was our standard means of operating.

Can anyone shed some light on resolving this? Do I need to upgrade the principal server, also?

Thanks for the reply.

I'm not trying to restore from 2008 to 2005 (I'm not sure if I made that clear). I am mirroring from 2005 to 2008 and trying to take a snapshot from 2008 to 2008.

Should this, in theory at least, be possible?
