I tried to gather information on what exactly DBCC traceon(3604) does but I'm not satisfied with what i got. Could someone please explain in a bit detail about the functionality?

It redirects certain outputs to the client (management studio). Without that flag on, those outputs would go to the error log.

It's not necessary unless you're using things like DBCC PAGE and other undocumented features.
