Hi all, I'm trying to cycle a 91 mb error log. I've run sp_cycle_errorlog & dbcc errorlog from within ssms & osql & the log will not cycle. The only thing of interest in the log is 'attempting to cycle error log'. The log directory has errorlog & errorlog.6 (no inbetweens). I'm on 2005. I can't restart SQL at this time. Can you think of any reason a log would not cycle / or anything else I should check?Thank you!! |

Check the file permissions. And check the event viewer for any errors at the same time. |

Ha! You are a genius YellowBug - Win error log reveals os errors. OS error ... A process outside of SQL server may be preventing SQL from reading the files ... make sure no other processes have locked the file with write-only access'. Back to google to find out what!Thank you!! |

You're welcome. Do you know which process has the file locked? I'd use Process Explorer (do a handle search). |
