Dear All, I just want to know what are all the day to day activities of DBA who is having 2.5 to 3 years of experience.Don't refer any links for this i just want to know from real practical DBA's here. Also if anybody tell me the what is an approximate salary for an 3 years DBA in India. As i see most of the time DBA job is automated for some extent, what he will be doing in the remaining working hours. If you answer from your real experience it will be very helpful for me to make my carrier as DBA.
Thanks in Advance, Gangadhar |

Work on dev/test/perf/... tickets 4. Work on project tasks 5. Proactive administration (performance mostly) 6. Automating things when I can ...

My normal routine - if everything goes according to plan.
1) Coffee 2) Any Fatal page\email alerts? 3) Failed SQL Server Agent Jobs in the last 24 hrs 4) Server System Errors in the last 24 hrs 5) SQL Server Logs Critical in the last 24 hrs (includes Backup failures) 6) SQL Server Login Failed Critical in the last 24 hrs 7) DB2 diagnostics in the last 24 hrs (error and severe) 8) Performance Issues 9) Consulting
Key Questions: 1) Are there any production systems not available? If so, Fix it
2) Are there any Dev\Test\QA servers not available? If so, Fix it
3) Are there any issues which might impact RPO,RTO and SLA? Fix Them
