Whenever i add new logins and set authentication to mixed mode, i enter a password but as soon as its set it changes to something else.

for example if i set a password as 12345. when i next check it the password is a 15 digit password.

i tried setting the password as a few different things but they all seem to change to a 15 character one.

any ideas?

That's just a display thing in SSMS. The password is still set to what you specified. Ignore the display of the *******.
