Just wondering - do you guys say "S-Q-L" or "sequel" - I've heard vehement arguments for both.

Personally, I refer to "Sequel" Server, but the S-Q-L language.

I have to say I used to be an S-Q-L advocate having started using Oracle databases rather than SQL Server. As soon as I started using SQL Server I seem to have migrated to Sequel - it must be another "We're Microsoft and we're going to change the way the world works" thing!

Did somebody call me?
Oh well, as long as I'm here... I've been a Sequel guy most of my SQL life, especially when talking about Sequel Server. Then I was online reading about mySQL, where they adamantly proclaim that it is "my ess que ell" and the pretty much hardened me to forevermore using sequel.

sea-quell when refering to the Microsoft Product . . .
Dee-eM-eL when refering to any ess-que-el code that modifies data Dee-Dee-eL when refering to any ess-que-el code that defines data
(clients think you are really smart when you right a proc using DML rather than just plain old SQL . . .)

Ooo! Ooo! Ooo! Can I make fun of Jay's spelling????
"Right" a proc, as in, "make corrections to a badly written proc"?
Or, "Write" a proc that they don't currently have but really would like to?
Sorry Jay, couldn't resist

Jay, all you had to do was say, "Yeah Rob, you wouldn't believe how many really screwed up procs I had to fix! Most of these idiots wrote them based on advice you gave on SQL Team!"

Is this site pronounced SequelTeam then?
Hmmm - I was looking for a name for my new site.
It comes from Structured English Query Language and was Sequel (but that was IBM) then shortened to SQL.
I prefer the letters (I've come across another language called sequel but a long time ago) and there are a lot of companies called Sequel.
Might have been worse - we could be writing Square.

has to be SQL cos TLAs are the OWTG. BTW we used to call it Sequel at Uni - that was in 1990. That was back when I was getting my BSC.
PS - How embarrased do I have to be if I bring up my 250 posts in the Yak Corral????
