I don't know what you're trying to do but that's not correct!
You can use WHEN inside CASE.
Example:
CASE WHEN col1=1 THEN 'one' ELSE 'Dont know' END

Best thing to kill time on holiday is to solve SQL puzzles (like the one Joe celko put forward every once a while)
