Hi I've installed a fresh copy of SQL 2K5 successfully and I want to go in and add a user login as sys admin, but i'm having trouble connecting in either authentication modes (Windows Auth & SQL server Auth).

During installation I was not prompted to add user (as you would have expected in SQL 2K8), so i just chose the default "windows authentication"

So this is I have in the login screen.
Server Type: Database Engine
Server Name: localhost
Authentication: Windows Authentication

I am logged in to the PC as the local admin and username is being resolved as <COMPUTERNAME\local admin>.

Error message I get:
Cannot connect to localhost
Additional Information - Login failed for 'COMPUTERNAME\local admin'. (Microsoft SQL server, Error:18456)

I cant use SQL server Athentication since there are no credentials set for it.

Please Help.

Try to connect to "(local)" instead...it should work? You did add yourself as an administrator right? -> http://goneale.files.wordpress.com/2008/12/sql-install-error.jpg

(not my screenshot, just something I googled).
