Does anyone know where the SSMS template scripts are stored on the OS?

Over the period, I have created a number of custom templates. I need to take a backup. However, i am not able to find them on the OS.

Have a look at

C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\90\Tools\Binn\VSShell\Common7\IDE\sqlworkbenchprojectitems\Sql

but I am not sure.

Thank you, webfred. That is correct.

For user templates the path is as below,
C:\Documents and Settings\user_name\Application Data\Microsoft\Microsoft SQL Server\100\Tools\Shell\Templates\Sql
