Hello, I am trying to install Microsoft SQL Studio Management Express. When I try to establish a connection I am getting an error. quote: A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections. (provider Named Pipes Provider, error: 40-Could not open a connection to SQL Server) Microsoft SQL Server, error 2)
I am trying to connect to my server here at my house. Which is my laptops name: Laptop-PC (for purposes of security). I downloaded Microsoft SQL Studio Management Express from http://www.microsoft.com/Sqlserver/2005/en/us/express-down.aspx Then I scrolled down to the heading SQL Server 2005 Express Edition SP3 and with my 64-bit computer I proceded to click the download link under the heading Install Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express Edition.Nevertheless, apparently it is not working correctly. I should be able to get on my server with a connection. Does anyone have any helpful hints that they would offer? Thank you very much.Diana Magers*There is no formula for success except perhaps an unconditional acceptance of life and what it brings. |

I'm assuming you're connecting from one laptop to a server . In that case , check you can ping, and then try a telnet session with the port. Could you post the resultJack Vamvas--------------------http://www.sqlserver-dba.com |
