I often needed this while doing data migration from a legacy system...

declare @sampleColumn varchar(255)
set @sampleColumn = 'Let''s replace the   unwanted   spaces!'

--select @sampleColumn
--union
select replace(replace(replace(@sampleColumn,' ','~# '),' ~#',''),'~#','')
