Gentlemen -Are there any significant "gotchas" to establishing a linked server from 2005 to 2008? As of this time, I have connectivity between the two servers across the desired port, but initial testing of the linked server yields inability to successfully test/validate the connection. |

I would expect creating a linked server between SQL 2005 and SQL 2008 would be a doddle - compared to trying to link to Oracle et al.But its generally a Black Art I'm afraid. In case it helps:http://www.sqlteam.com/forums/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=164892 |

It's easy, and no issues between 2005/2008.If you're using Windows Authentication (which is best practice), make sure the SPN is set for the SQL Service Accounts and that the service account is trusted for delegation in Active Directory. That's all there is to it. |
