Hi all,

Installed the 64bit on Windows 7 today, set the security to Mixed (our Windows environment needs solidifying), set the SA password to something personal.

Then, I found I had to install Management Studio separately??!?! Did this, and can't connect to a bean. Authentication either fails or when I try to create a new database to which to login, I browse to the folders where the Sys DB's are - they're not home!!

Anyone knows what might be going on before I uninstall the whole thing and start fresh? Where the hell IS the uninstall program anyway??!?!

Thanks all,

JB

Uninstalled, cleaned out the Registry, and started off the installation of the Advanced version of Express. Now it just comes to a dead stop after I accept the licencing. I don't mean freezing, the rest of the process simply fails to begin.

Can't help you with that. Do you have a support contract with Microsoft?

You'll need to navigate to the exe or add the path to your path variable.

TCP? What do you mean?

It's a shortcut way to override the default network library. If tcp works, we can then fix your system to force it to use tcp.

When it asks you what server to connect to. The hope is that it connects successfully.

Popped in "tcp:ServerName\InstanceName" ...

I'm sure about the Server name, but where do I find the instance name if I can't even get into the system?

Error: 26 - Error locating Server/Instance Specified (Microsoft SQL Server)

I don't understand why it isn't OFFERING me a server name to connect to. I shouldn't have to offer server names or instances...that makes me suspect something is wrong with the installation.
