Hi Everyone

I just installed my SQL Server and Management tool 2008, but I have a problem with loging in.

Server Type: Database Engine
Server Name: (local)
Authentication: Window Authentication

I get this error:

Cannot connect to local

A network-related instances-specific erro occured while establishing a connection to SQL Server.
The server not found or was not accessible. Verify that instance name is correct and that SQL Server is not configured to allow
remote connections.(provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server)(Microsoft SQL Server, Error: 2)

If anyone could help
Thank you

Try (local) instead of local

No, you're never too old to Yak'n'Roll if you're too young to die.

Have a look in the Configuration Manager. Are the needed protocols enabled?
Or another idea: did you gave another instancename at installation time?

Are you able to log in if you change from (local) to the server's hostname?

That's the service account. WebFred's asking if this is a named instance.

Can you post how you solved it so other people with the same problem can read it?
