I have a Publisher with SQL Server 2005 with merge Replication (Push Subscription). When SQL Server Replication Starts, It is often slowing the sql server performance and making the server busy. A huge read/write operation on the disk is performed some time 50 or 60 MB per second. Some error messages are found at MSRepl_Errors table in Distribution database. The messages are like "The replication agent encountered a failure. See the previous job step history message or Replication Monitor for more information. The step failed." or "Error 14151 severity 18 State 1". Can anyone tell me what may be the reason behind it and what should be done for trouble-shooting?

Is it taking the initial snapshot - i.e. a copy of everything included.

Cursors are useful if you don't know sql.
SSIS can be used in a similar way.
