Have a report that times out when run on report manager, however when I run it on management studio is fine. What is the problem?

you mean running query retrieves result faster in management studio but report times out?

Have you checked the Report Manager Server for any : a) anti-virus software b) Server restarts ?

Yes.

today ran fine on both management studio and report manager. it's weird. This has been happening since I added a Linked server to the query. I hope tomorrow is fine too

see if there were some network issues or some blocking happening when query was running. Use sp_who2 to identify blocking

It didn't run for 4 days (monday - thrusday). i think even if there is blocking during those 4 days, it would have dissipated and able to run it.

Did you check for server retarts?Are you saying the report was attempting sto run for 4 days? Any other messages in the log files?
