Sorry if this is the wrong bit of the forum to post this.

I have SSMS installed and even though I'm not using it, it still leeches 100MB of my system RAM.

Is that normal?

I know Microsoft are renowned for employing Mickey Mouse coders but 100MB for doing nothing?

Hell, I installed Windows 3.1 off of half a dozen 1.44MB floppy discs.

Is my situation typical?

Mine shows 50MB, and it's connected to 2 SQL instances but not doing anything else.

Why is 100MB a big deal? There's a reason why it takes a bit to open up initially.

For doing nothing? Running the world's best free chess program in full flow only needs 18MB?

What is SMSS doing (apart from reporting back to Redmond, of course) to need 100MB whilst inactive?

Why does it matter what it's doing? Who knows. It's a huge software package. Do you ever run Visual Studio? SSMS is similar.
