Hi,

I have sql server 2008 r2 on a cluster. The problem is I can't backup the server correctly because the server contains 17000 bases and the backup plan takes over 20 hours. Replication and mirorring doesn't work too.

Anyway what is the best way to backup faster that server ? Is there any tool for that ?

Thanks ?

You have 17,000 databases on a single SQL Server instance?

My limit for a single instance is 50 as I get worried about job durations. My databases aren't tiny or small. Plus I hate scrolling down a database list in SSMS. Heck, my personal limit is probably more like 20, lol. 17000 would make me go insane.

Are you backing up straight to tape? How much is it in terms of disk space? To narrow your backup window you may need to investigate some snapshot technology - such as FlashCopy Manager . This depends on the stotrage type.
