Please forgive what is probably a very basic question, but Im brand new to SQL Server 2008 and Im looking to setup a daily backup via the maintenance wizard that backs up to an individual file each day.
The ones Ive done so far seem to be adding to an existing backup file which is getting very large.
I would also like to verify that the backup was carried out without errors, but when I tried that I got a verification failed message.
Any help with this would be fantastic.

Thanks so much

Unless you have to specified to append to existing backup file, it will not do it.
Can you let us know what are the options you have chosen for backup?
