i have a database that is backed up once a day only.
I accidentally truncated the table -- if there is no backups more recent - is there anything saved in tempdb?

No. Restore from your last backup.

If truncating the table leads to issues - than consider adding some regular log backups during the day . Is this a Development or Porduction Server? How often is data modified?
