1. Disk space, performance conditions, job failures, transaction log full, filegroups full, etc. 2. We use SCOM for our monitoring. There are literally hundreds if not thousands of possible alerts.
Thanks Tara. I prefer to use SQL Server to monitor for database-related situations such as job failures and t-log full conditions. And use SCOM for non-SQL metrics such as disk space and performance.
Yes, you can use SCOM for Agent Job failures too. Also, if you need only few alert notifications, why to use third party tools? You can better manage with Sql Server only.
What I've found on larger environments is to keep your alerts for situations to a focused list. It is tempting to monitor on a very wide range of situations - but it can create noise.
