Hi, Right now my meager setup is SQL Server 2008 R2 (and PostGreSql) and Report Builder 3.0 on the same workstation (Dell desktop i5 processor, 8GB Ram, 4TB Harddrive Space). My only requirement is to create PDF reports from my database. I do not have other users that need to connect to this machine. However this database is millions of records and the reports I need to generate are 1000-4000 pages long with subreports. What is the best setup for create these large reports in a cost efficient manner? My thinking is that if i do not need RAID or allow other users access to my database I should be able to use a high performance workstation (Dell T7500 or Hp Z800) with 2x Xeon processors and a large amount of ram 60+GB rather then invest in a server. I am new to this so please point me in the right direction for the hardware for this task. Maybe i just need to get a tower server with lots of ram to produce these reports? Thanks!

What is your expectation for the time the report should take? That is a good starting point.have you tested yet on a desktop? If so, how did it go?
