I have been asked if we can switch some of our database server from MSSQL 2008 R2 Enterprise license to Standard. We do have some that are lightly used and can likely perform ok with Standard if I find we're not using any advanced features that are only available in Enterprise.

When switching editions I assume I would have to uninstall the Enterprise instance and reinstall a Standard instance. There is no way to configure an Enterprise instance to run as Standard, is that correct?

I would appreciate feedback from anyone who has "downgraded" a license.
Thank you. Jack

After installing reattach them back. Be aware that there would be downtime for the clients accessing dbs until it becomes available again.

Thanks visakh16. Yes I'm aware of how to save the databases. Whew! Lots of work but we can save several thousands of dollars.
