I notice that in sql server 2012, there are no mdi windows I can use for my query analyser. Is there anyway to have this installed in this version?

If the issue is with screen space, you can close Object Explorer or any other left pane that you see. I need it to be visible, so I just shrink the left pane down when needed. Alternatively you can have it hidden as needed.

You can drag an editor window and it will move to any location you want. You can even un-dock it completely...however, you will not have the toolbars available directly in the undocked window.
