I will be migrating a SQL Server instance from 2008 R2 to a new server running 2012.

I've done this a couple of times so I'm scripting logins and jobs. Getting the databases moved over will not be a problem.

But does anyone have any advice for doing a thorough assessment of everything that's installed on the server that is non-database related?
Maybe the Microsoft Planning and Assessment tool?

Thanks, Jack

In an ideal world all your database server builds would be standardised , built from an image incorporating all the organisation standards. In reality this is often not the case - and other software creeps on , for various reasons. read a conversation here on for ides on which software is OK: http://www.sqlserver-dba.com/2011/08/should-libraries-be-installed-on-database-servers.html
