Hi,
We curently running 3x Production Servers with SQL 2008 R2 on Windows 2008 R2 in a VMWare enviroment(All virtual). We've currently purchased SQL 2012 Licences. Do you recommend we upgrade the OS to Server 2012 R2 also and why...as I need to justify to our FD the benefits of Server 2012 R2 VS 2008 R2 if any....I've done a bit of research and cant find any reason...we also wont run a core version of the OS.

Thanks

So these are existing servers? I would just keep them where they are right now. If in the future you have new VMs, then use Windows 2012.

Let me rephrase my question. We will either rebuild 3x new VM's to replace our existing 3x SQL 2008 R2 Servers but the question is should we use Windows 2012 or 2008 R2 Server. Id prefer not to do a SQL 2012 Upgrade on our existing servers

Your last post is confusing me. Are you asking about the version of Windows or SQL Server? You've mentioned both.

Should we install Windows Server 2008R2 with SQL 2012 or Windows Server 2012 with SQL 2012? I need to motivate to our Management the benefits of using Windows 2012 Server and SQL 2012 VS Windows 2008R2 Server and SQL 2012

If your infrastructure can support it, then I would advise going forward with Windows 2012. It offers better scalability, performance and availability.

Here are a couple of good links:
