Hey Guys/Gals,

Where do these titles come from?

Can someone give me a little history/meaning on this?

But you just gotta get one:

http://www.cafeshops.com/sqlteam

And a blast from (the not so distant past):

http://www.sqlteam.com/forums/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=26645&whichpage=1

And why are all the links broken?

The yak of course comes from Graz's yak fetish...SQL=Yak

The links from all threads somehow broke when graz upgraded the forums.

Graz, we're still waiting for the answer here!!

The titles come from me trying to make up titles that involve SQL but don't imply any particular level of SQL knowledge. And maybe throw in some kind of yak reference. So I try to create titles that have SQL words, such as "contstraint". However I try to avoid titles that actually say someone is good at SQL (Server), such as "SQL Stud". As everyone takes great pains to point out, a high post count doesn't necessarily mean one is great at SQL (Server).

As to the yak stuff. I'll write up something here soon. I've always tried to keep the "yak stuff" kind of mysterious. But I suppose it needs a little explaining.

I don't think Graz meant you Tara.

Then there are a few with high post counts who are "SQL Studs" (or Studettes)

Honestly speaking, be I an employer the Warrior Princess was
the 1st candidate for a vacancy in my company... She looks
so industrious, resolute and reliable. Very nice features,
especially for daily (sometimes dull) work.

LOL other case with some obscure geniuses.

Graz, Please don't give up the YAK!!

But rather how does one apply/request a title like:

"SQLTeam Crack Dealer in Training"

or something like that...

But actually I remember reading a post some time back about titles being a privilege and not a right and I kinda agree with this philosophy.

Any thoughts ??

Shhhhhh, don't ask

Generally you get a custom title at 1000, or if we think of something really witty

That sounds soooo familiar.....

and why is that the inference? Couldn't it be that the count infers the person's want (or is that need?) to learn? Or help? Or to take part of a greater community?

MOO

Hey, an MVY, is a better judge of the volume of knowlegde

And, also, half the time is spent trying to drag out the question...

SQLTeam.com history lesson
---------------------------------

In the beginning, there was Yak. And the yak was good.

oops.
Back in the old days, the titles used to all have SQL in them, so at 250 (which was a LOT then) you would become a "Constraint Violating SQL Guru".

What happened was a certain person, who is no longer around, attained that level by starting flamewars and posting incoherent, inaccurate answers to newbies.

So it would be easy for someone to walk away thinking they had a definitive answer from a guru, when in fact it was total crap.

So titles changed so that post count didn't look like a direct comparison to knowledge or experience.
