Hello All,

I have got 3 diff. boxes of sql server. Box1 and box2 are on sql 7.0 SE and box3 is on sql 2000 SE. I have to consolidate these three boxes into a new box of sql 2000 SE.

I know how to do a master restore, but my question is, after doing a restore (including master) of box3 on the new server, how do I go about moving the databases from box1 and box2 on the new server..??? Even if I do a database restore (excluding master) of box1 and box2 on the new server, my past experience says that I will definately face a problem of orphan logins. How do I avoid such a scenario, or is there a better way of doing the above activity..???

Pls. advice and save my neck....

Tx a lot in advance.....

Regards
Nishtih

why would you want to do a master restore? You aren't recovering from a disaster.

Just backup and restore the databases from the other two boxes to the single SQL2K SE server you are consolidating to.

You will also have to add the logins that you use on the other systems to the consolidated box. If you use SQL Server authentication, you will have to familiarize yourself with sp_change_users_login to deal with the orphaned users. But this is really not a big deal at all.

You will also have to change client configurations if they have odbc connections to the servers you consolidated.
