Sooooooo, my office manager comes up to me last Friday and says "we need you to pass a MS certification exam so we can retain our partnership". I say, "ok, by when?". She replies, "Friday of next week". So I got signed up for 70-229 that day.So, got the Transcenders that Friday, studied a little bit this week, took the test this morning, and passed with a 738.Whew.~ monkey |

Dunno yet. Oftentimes I seriously question the validity of any type of certifications, as I've seen good and bad DBAs and developers with lots of certifications. However, I don't think it'll hurt me to get one.It was a goal of mine last year to get the MCDBA cert, but I kinda moved on to other pursuits and lost interest.~ m |

Congrats, man!!Was it tough job to pass thru? I never seen/read those questions.PS I'm not quite sure what exactly I mean by this strange semanticconstruction "seen/read". Hm... there is a subtle difference in them.PPS btw, how you'd solve this thing:create table #t (n int primary key)insert into #tselect 2 union allselect 4 union allselect 5 union allselect 6 union allselect 9Result of a select should be:n1 n2--------2 9 4 6 5 56 49 2 |

Is passing with a 738 on a 70-229 good or not? (Everyone else understood this?)(Do these numbers remind anyone else of CB slang? 10-4 good buddy and all that.)SELECT n, (select top 1 X.n from #t X WHERE X.N >=Y.N ORDER BY X.n DESC) FROM #t Y ORDER BY n |

Its 738 out of a possible 1000. Dunno if it's good or not, however the proctor seemed surprised that I passed. She said, "oh, you did very well." I guess that this testing center 1) doesnt give this exam very often, and 2) fail most of the people that do take it.roger, 10-4, over.~ m |

SamC--And mine (looks a bit simpler but, in principle, the same):select a.n n1, b.n n2 from #t a inner join #t b on(select count(*) from #t t where t.n<a.n)=(select count(*) from #t t where t.n>b.n)order by 1Damian--873 - nice score! = 9*97 |

And surprisingly, both queries generate exactly the same execution plan. |

The test costs $125 at the testing center I was at. You can only take the exams at MS-certified testing centers. Here's what the 70-229 covers:http://www.microsoft.com/learning/exams/70-229.aspI'd say that it was pretty hard. The questions can be tricky, sometimes all 5 answers are correct, and you have to choose the best one, or you choose the best 3 out of 6.~ m |
