I'm trying to utilize sql server agent alerts(SQL Server2000). I configured alerts to react to any event of severity 0-25 similarly to "Demo: Sev X errors". (for testing purposes) None of them has ever been invoked as it is shown in Enterprice Manager console , although in Event Viewer there are logs that definitely should be responded by alerts.

What may be the problem?

are the alerts failing or they're not just responding?
if failing, check point of failure,
if not responding, check if they are configured properly

I think Agent does not catch the event in event log at all. And alerts fail. Sometimes Sql Server Agent error log says :

[log] unable to read local eventlog(reason:the handle is invalid)
